TRON legacy & Tangled milestones

TRON Legacy has passed $100 million at the US box office and has made $175 million worldwide. It has made back the $170 million production costs back. Good news for a sequel.

Tangled has passed $150 million in the USA box office in 5 weeks. This is huge for the mouse studios. The Disney animation is back!

Xmas 2010

Sorry it appears my blog iPhone app is not behaving and the last couple have bombed out.

So heres hoping it gets up this time.

Merry christmas to those that see this. I was blessed with TS 3 on blu ray, mater's cartoon tales, and Fox and the Hound 2.

Watched Maters tales and I think I have to make him number 3 on my Disney favorite characters. Goofy 1, Donald 2, mater, captain hook and stitch round out my top five.

So now on to 2011. 'Tangled' is first from Jan 6 then we have a swag of films in the next 6 months wrapped up in June with 'Pirates 4'. I am hoping to tie in My two passions for that one as I hope to organizer a Cub Scout Movie outing that is themed.

On the outside of my wishlist there is Disney Live in brisbane in jan with 3 stories count to life, Snow White and 7 Dwarfs, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast. Be interesting to see the write up if one appears.

Till the new year be safe and look forward to
2011

My new goal

I have decided to start 'Spot the Disney product' on the streets campaign. With all the new merchandise and cool clothes people wear with Disney characters I felt I should create this little fun segment.

To start off today at the Logan Hyperdome I saw a young girl wearing a Mickey Mouse T-shirt and yesterday at the same place a boy under 5 wearing a Lightening McQueen t-shirt

If you see any in your travels let me know. Will add them as I catch them.

New book on Disney Years 1919-1928

Michael Barrier in a recent column briefly highlights Walt Before Mickey: Disney's Early Years, 1919-1928 by Timothy S. Susanin saying, "When it's published next May, his book will automatically become a standard resource for anyone writing about the early Disney studios." The book features a foreword by Diane Disney Miller and is currently available for pre-order from Amazon.com

'Tangled' advanced screening

Went to see 'Little Fockers' yesterday. Good movie not as good as the first two but still had some interesting moments!

But the best thing was that the Logan Hyperdome Cinemas are having an advanced 3D screening of 'Tangled' on Sunday at 6pm. Have purchased my tickets!

Also saw a poster for 'Mars needs Moms' which is a new Disney Film. Comes out at Easter School Holidays. This wasn't even on the radar. Need to look into this one.

Also my dates for 'Pirates 4' release date appears to be wrong as the poster at the cinemas shows May 2011. Keep you posted on the release date

Prep and Landing Short

You know living down under it is hard to get excited about new things Disney release from time to time in the US. I find it hard to read all the cool things that Disney do and have to wait long times before getting a glimpse of the things the blogs speak about.

One of those items was the new Prep and Landing short run on US ABC network on Dec 6. I had been looking on YouTube to watch it but it didn't show until Dec 10. I had given up looking for it after 2 days and forgot about it.

Today I have watched it and love it. I hope they decide to turn it onto a full length film down the track as Lanny and Wayne would be a fun team. The fun they could have with these characters would be awesome.

Anyway if you haven't seen the shirt here is the link.

Disney insiders advise patience when it comes to determining "TRON: Legacy" 's box office success - Jim Hill - Editor In Chief - Jim Hill Media - Disney news, reviews, history and commentary by Jim Hill

Jim Hill Media has given a great positive spin on Tron Legacy and the chances of a third movie. The premise is that from all the ancilliary purchases from merchandise and attendance at the Disneyland Parks to suck up the atmosphere of ElecTRONica. The chances are good of a follow up movie.

Bring it on!

TRON Legacy - $3.5 million in Australia

TRON Legacy has reportedly taken $3.5 million at the Australian Box Office this weeknd. Opening in 325 cinemas it has jumped to number one. The chance to update the film from 1982, fans interest and to see the graphics has made it's mark.

I, for one, am pleased it has done well, Looks like viral campaign paid off. Let's hope it continues to grow.

TRON Legacy estimate box office take

Early estimates show that TRON Legacy is on track to take in $45 million at the US Box office. This is great news considering I was concerned about the storyline. Hopefully it will have legs and continue to move on next weeks.

Obviously the cinema goers are curious about the graphics over plot. Looks good for sequels to happen ifbthw numbed continue.

Considering the original took. In $33 million in 1982 on the entire run. It shows that TRON Legacy has support from both fans and interested parties.

See my facebook page (disketears) to see the link to the estimated numbers. fingers crossed it stays on par!

TRON Legacy my thoughts

Well where to start. This movie has had a lot of hype surrounding it and as you have probably read, it has been one to watch. I loved the first TRON. Yeah it is old by today's standard but at time it was ground breaking.

TRON Legacy has been sold on the graphics and boy does it deliver. At times it is hard to know if it is real world or cgi. The killer come when things de-res and they fall away to chips.

The movie starts off with us revisiting the past with a catch up of what has occurred over the past 20 years. The graphics to de-age Jeff Bridges is really good. However of you get too close to his face you see the faults. Interesting move in using that technique.

The story behind Sam and his escapades at the start are interesting in how he has become an advocate for free software as his Dad had tried to establish before his disappearance. The boardroom scenes at the start where we see Alan and the new board of Encom has a huge dig at Microsoft and possibly Apple.

When Sam is uploaded to the grid, it is a bit anticlimactic as I was expecting cool upload graphics, but it just happened. Once inside the first 20 minutes of games and grid racing are awesome. The new vehicle added make you wish you had one of each.

In terms of the story-line, yes it is a bit thin. Gets very spiritual and zen like. Does sort of take some of the heat from the movie, but I was still captivated with the graphics so it sort of goes by easily.

Michael Sheen plays a cool character of Zeus. He is slimy and shady plus a bit over the top. But it kind of needed it. The Charlie Chaplin walk rounded it out.

In terms of soundtrack, when I sampled the music on iTunes it bored me, but in context of the movie it is prefect. Not something I would buy for the car or bus to work.

If there is one low point it would be the ending, felt it left you a little confused and scratching your head. The action prior to the end is fairly cool, but has left an unanswered question about TRON himself. Sequel opportunity here.

I really enjoyed it. It was a great ride. It isn't an edge of your seat romp but it may do well. As too sequels, well that we will have to wait and see.

Did it live up to the hype, yes. Will it be a blockbuster, No.

I am still stoked to have seen it and it will be added to my collection in six months.

Blast from the past

Was doing a bit of digging on Google for Disketears and found this old review for Return To Neverland back in 2002.

The other is our close friends who also is a Disney Die hard!

Scary moment and thought!

Well, Brisbane just got severely hit with a major storm. It was that severe that we could not see outside the building I work in and all I could think about was how my eldest son will get to the cinemas tonight.

Hopefully that was the last one today as my tickets are booked for 6:30pm and after waiting so long having work around getting to Cinemas at Southbank was a concern.

3.5 hours to go!

Tangled - OMG!

Well, my wife floored me the other day when she stated she was looking forward to Tangled. To say that my jaw hit the floor would be an understatement. My wie is not a huge Animated film fan. Let alone Dinsey. She has learnt to deal with my obession. however, after visiting Disneyland in March this year, she went nuts in the stores!

For her to say that she wants to go is huge. Disney, you have hit the mark on the sell, and it is obvious from the US Box Office it is well worth the ride. January 6 is still to far away at this stage to get ready for it!

To give you an idea of how big this is, she went along to Toy Story 3 and thought it was OK. Didn't sob at the end, which she should have well I did but hey it hit a nerve! So when she gets excited about this it is huge!

Pirates 4 Trailer

Well it is out, the Pirates 4 Trailer. Looks awesome. However, just because Elizabeth Swann is not a major Character, why then does Cruz character of BlackBeards daughter look like her. Come on add some originalitiy to it.Plus the shot of the hunk, he looks like Will Turner - and has discovered the Fountian of Youth!

Outside of these 2 littel indscretions, I have my calendar booked out for that weeknd in June. We in Australia have to wait 4 weeks before we get it. Why is this when all other major events are released at the same time such as Tron Legacy?

It looks awesome and it will be a huge hit!

Sorcerers Apprentice review

What a romp. This is one of those movies that was a lot of fun to sit through. I really enjoyed this as it was a B style movie with a lot of laughs and some neat special effects.

The story was a little loose but the on jokes and lines from other movies made this movie more enjoyable.

I felt Nicolas Cage was prefect for the role as was Alfred Molina as the evil one. The apprentice was very nerd at first and you may dislike the character initially but by the end he grows into the role and was ok for the role.

I would love to see this with a sequel as it has merit and strength to go future let's hope Disney take a chance on another romp.

The wait is nearly over

One of the movies on my 'must see' is 'Scorcers Apprentice'. This movie appears like it will be fun. Only time will tell after the weekend. I know it flopped on the US, but I think that the Superhero movies are taking over from more original idea movies.

You only have to look at the take this year so far, Iron Man 2 was huge, Alice in wonderland was huge too but it is an old story done with a fantastic theme. I think this is what is killing a fun movie kids today think the simple movies are boring. Have heard my youngest say his friends not going to see Scorcers Appremtice as it is a kids movie.

Oh well I hope I am proven right!

Scorcerer's Apprentice Opens next week

Even though the Box office in the US was not great for this film, it has been on my radar for awhile now as one to watch.

The movie opens in Australia national next Thursday, September 9 and I am hoping to free up some time on the weekend

These are the times I hate living in Brisbane

There are times when I find living in Brisbane a real pain. My favourite Disney movie has come to the stage. It is now playing in Melbourne and I am likely to miss this fantastic event due my location.

What makes it worse is the current packages to go are not affordable or possible due to returning from an overseas trip to the USA. What is worse is that during that holiday I missed it in LA.

I am hoping it will tour next year and you can bet I will be first in line to get tickets.

Unless some magic happens and I win lotto

I wait in hope....
